# Web3 functions

You want a smart contract function to run automatically on a schedule or in response to an on-chain/off-chain condition, without a server you have to keep running yourself.

**Who this is for:** developers who need automated, event-driven or scheduled contract calls (a "keeper" pattern) rather than a user manually triggering every transaction. **Prerequisites:** a deployed contract with the function you want automated; [Networks & Endpoints](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/reference/networks-and-endpoints).

If what you need is gas-sponsored execution triggered by a user, see [Relayers & meta-transactions](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/build-on-lumia/smart-contracts/relayers-and-meta-transactions).
