# Bridges

**Who this is for:** developers and users who need to move assets or messages between Lumia and another chain, and want to know which mechanism applies.

### Which mechanism applies to which route

Each mechanism covers a different pair of endpoints.

  LU -- "withdraw, native Lumia bridge" --> E
  LU -- "shared settlement layer" --> AG["Polygon CDK chains, via AggLayer"]
  LU -- "interchain messages" --> HY["Other chains, via Hyperlane"]
```
The diagram shows which mechanism covers which route, not how long a transfer takes on any of them.
### Native Lumia bridge
This is the default path for moving assets between Ethereum and Lumia. Walkthrough: [`/build/bridge/bridge-to-lumia`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/build-on-lumia/bridge/bridge-assets-to-from-lumia-l2) (developer version) or [`/use/bridge/bridge-guide`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/use-lumia/bridge/bridging-assets-user-guide) (plain-language version).
### Shared settlement layer
The shared settlement layer Lumia uses, which also connects it to the other CDK chains. Concept and role on Lumia: [`/lumia/architecture/polygon/agglayer`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/ecosystem/lumia/architecture/polygon-cdk-and-agglayer/how-lumia-settles-and-bridges-to-ethereum).
### Interchain messaging
Hyperlane is a general-purpose interchain-messaging protocol, used as part of Lumia's interoperability stack.
Details: [`/lumia/architecture/interoperability/hyperlane`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/ecosystem/lumia/architecture/interoperability/cross-chain-messaging-with-hyperlane).
