# KYB Know Your Business

**Who this is for:** issuers onboarding an institutional counterparty, or evaluating what checks their own entity may be asked to complete. This is a concept page: no on-chain KYB integration guide is published yet.

### What it verifies

KYB confirms the identity, legal standing, and beneficial ownership of a business or institutional entity: the corporate equivalent of [KYC](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/ecosystem/lumia/compliance/kyc-know-your-customer) for individuals. It typically covers registration documents, ownership structure, and sanctions/watchlist screening of the entity and its principals.

### Where it applies

KYB is typically required during institutional issuer onboarding, verifying the entity that is issuing an asset, and for institutional investors participating in a distribution that carries an entity-level rather than individual-level eligibility check. Like KYC, it is enforced at the application layer per Lumia's [compliance model](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/ecosystem/lumia/compliance/compliance-model-overview), not by the base chain itself. **Lumia provides no KYB process and recommends no KYB vendor.** The onboarding process and the documentation required are set entirely by the issuer or counterparty, using whichever provider they choose. That follows directly from the compliance model: the chain is permissionless, and entity checks live in the application the issuer builds.
