# Gas fees node operator view

**Who this is for:** operators running their own Lumia node who want to know what role their node plays in fee handling. For the actual fee values (current gas price ranges, the fee token, the fee calculation formula), see [`/reference/gas-and-fees`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/reference/gas-and-fees); this page doesn't repeat them.

**You should already know:** [RPC node overview](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/run-a-node/rpc-node/rpc-node-overview).

### What your node does and doesn't decide

Gas fees on Lumia are a protocol-level mechanism: standard EVM gas accounting, not something your node configures or negotiates. Your node's role is narrower:

* It validates a submitted transaction's gas price and gas limit against its own local rules before forwarding it toward the network's transaction pool.
* If you run a locally configured minimum gas price as a spam filter, that's a setting on your node, not a network-wide fee parameter: it only affects what your node will forward, not what the network charges.
* Your node does not set, collect, or redistribute fees itself. Fee revenue flows through the protocol's fee mechanism, not through individual RPC nodes.

### Where the real numbers live

Current gas price ranges, the fee token, and the fee calculation formula are canonical at [`/reference/gas-and-fees`](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/reference/gas-and-fees). Don't hardcode a fee value you've seen elsewhere into your own tooling: link to that page instead, since it's the one place those values get updated.
