# Liquidity restaking

**Who this is for:** Lumia users considering Liquidity Restaking as part of Lumia Stream, who want to understand the general shape of the mechanic before committing an asset.

### What restaking generally means

This is a general DeFi pattern, not a claim about Lumia. "Restaking" usually means committing an asset that is already staked, or already deployed in one protocol, to a second protocol for an additional purpose. It can extend what that asset secures or earns. It also adds the second protocol's risks on top of whatever risk the asset already carried: the second protocol's own smart-contract risk, and in some designs a slashing or penalty condition. That describes the pattern in general. It does not describe Lumia's implementation.

### Lumia's implementation

Liquidity Restaking sits under [Lumia Stream](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/use-lumia/liquidity/lumia-stream-overview) as one of its two liquidity mechanics, alongside [Node-Owned Liquidity](https://app.gitbook.com/s/chmhPiVNAafGw48c4oU2/use-lumia/liquidity/node-owned-liquidity).
