Getting a wallet
Who this is for: anyone new to crypto wallets who wants to hold LUMIA or use anything on Lumia. No programming background assumed.
What a wallet is
A wallet is the app or browser extension that holds the private keys controlling your address on a blockchain. It does not hold your assets. Your balance lives on the chain, and the keys in the wallet are what let you move it. Whoever holds those keys controls the address. You need a wallet before you can hold LUMIA, bridge assets, or interact with anything on Lumia.
Most wallets are browser extensions or mobile apps. MetaMask and FoxWallet are two examples. Any wallet that lets you add a custom EVM network can be pointed at Lumia, because Lumia is EVM-compatible: it uses the same address and transaction format as Ethereum.
Setting one up for Lumia
The setup steps, installing the wallet and adding the Lumia network to it, are documented once per wallet rather than repeated here.
Both pages sit in the developer section, but the network-setup steps are the same for everyone. You do not need to write any code to follow them.
Before you connect a wallet to anything
A few things are true of any wallet, not just on Lumia.
Never share your seed phrase or private key with anyone, including someone claiming to be support. No legitimate support channel will ever ask for it.
Check that the network you added matches the one you mean to use. Compare the chain ID against Networks & endpoints rather than copying values from a search result or an old bookmark.
Only connect your wallet to sites and contracts you have verified through an official Lumia channel.
